30 JULY 2018 – 05 AUGUST 2018
SCRIPTURE REFERENCE: 1 KINGS 18: 20-32

Greetings beloved; we have witnessed mighty healing miracles this weekend and we have started a week of testimonies as the Man of God declared. Thousands of people received their healings and many stood up from the wheel chairs, without the Man of God even laying hands on them. We give glory to the Name of Jesus for this mighty move of the Spirit of God and for His faithfulness.

Concerning the scripture above, the Man of God said, Baal is not God; the question is, “how do we prove it?” The difference between Baal and our God is that our God answers by fire. We know you called on the God of heaven by the answers you get from Him.  God hears and answers prayer.  The only thing that exposes Baal is the power of God manifested.  The preachers of yesterday failed Israel and the voice of the enemy became louder and louder.

A woman called Jezebel, wife of King Ahab, took advantage of the weakness of Israel.  The people were confused because they did not know God.  They saw no one calling on God and God answering.  Because of confusion the hearts of the people of Israel were turned to Baal by Jezebel.  When people do not see demonstration of the power of God in the church, they may end up seeking for help from wrong places.

The question people have even today is, “Is God still God?  Does He still hear?  Does he still answer?  Does he still heal?”  When the power of God is not demonstrated, the people of God will be in confusion.  But when you have tasted the goodness of God it is difficult for deception to take hold of you.  We must seek to know God, by experience.  We develop an intimate knowledge of Him by having an experience with Him.  God is able to deliver; He is able to promote; and He is able to make a way where there seems to be no way.

In the time when the children of Israel were in confusion and were deceived by Jezebel, Elijah stood to represent God in their midst. He was a man who knew God and heard from God.  He was bold enough to confront matters.  King Ahab accused Elijah of bringing trouble in the land.  Elijah challenged the king, and said, “I have not troubled Israel; it is you and your father’s house, in that you have forsaken the commandments of God and have followed Baal.”

King Ahab called all the children of Israel and the prophets of Baal and of the groves, and gathered them at Mount Carmel.  Elijah was alone on the side of God.  He was not afraid and he was not intimidated by them.  He was strong and bold like David when he faced Goliath.  He was not shaken.  He stood before them all and said, “Call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the Name of the LORD: and the God that answers by fire let him be God.”

As children of God we should be able to stand with boldness like Elijah.  The enemy is under our feet.  Therefore, all his servants and agents are far under our feet.  We are far higher and greater than them.  The Word says, greater is He that is in us than he who is in this world.  Many today want to speak about the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, but they do not want to bring Him into our context.

From morning till noon, the prophets of Baal called on their god and nothing happened.  Elijah gave them time to do all they could because he knew only the God of heaven can answer by fire.  He waited until 3pm, by the hour of offering.  It was now his turn to call on his God.  The first thing he did was to repair the altar of the Lord that was broken down. Beloved, the fire of God does not come down on a broken altar. The man of God said the fire of God is coming but we must prepare the altar.

The altar is not just a physical place.  The first altar you have is yourself. Fire will not come on you if you are still full of bitterness, jealousy, envy, pride, and everything that contradicts the character of the spirit of God.  The word of says, “Happy are those with a pure heart for they will see the Lord.”Matthew 5:8.  We must ask God to help us to be found faithful.  We are the vessels and conduit of his glory. There are two things required in order for the fire of God to come down on the altar.  Firstly the altar must be repaired and secondly there must be a sacrifice on the altar.

After Elijah had repaired the altar he asked the people to pour water on it and all around. This was a sacrifice. Water was at that time scarce in the land and it was more precious for them than anything.  He asked them to pour water over and over again.  After Elijah had done this, he called on God.  He prayed in front of them all saying, “let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word.  Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that you are the LORD God, and that you have turned their heart back again.” As Elijah prayed this prayer fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

When people saw this the confusion was done away with; they all bowed down and said, “The Lord is God. “They stopped worshiping Baal, because the glory of God was demonstrated and they saw God answering with fire.
